The earliest that most people expected we may finally hear new information about Final Fantasy VII Remake was going to be during Square Enix’s previously announced E3 stream next month. Sony surprised us all, however, with a brand new trailer during their State of Play event earlier that we told you about earlier. This promised more information soon, but the wording on their Facebook post after the fact made it seem like the game might not be as far away as we once thought.
Just after the State of Play stream, the official Final Fantasy VII Facebook page posted the same trailer along with a message from director Tetsuya Nomura. The message itself may seem pretty simplistic, but one part of it seemed to stand out.
“Most of the plans are already in place in the run up to launch, so please bear with us a little longer until we can release more information next month.”
We already knew that more information would be coming next month at E3 by the note at the end of the trailer saying more to come in June. However, this message specifically states that they already have most of the plans in place for the run up to launch. You wouldn’t think that would be the case if the game was still a couple years or more away as some have speculated with how quiet Square Enix has been about it.
It’s clear the first step of that plan is to give us new information at E3 2019 through the Square Enix stream, but could they really give us a release date or at least a release window? With them having their plans mostly lined up prior to launch, I would say a release window wouldn’t be totally out of the question.
With Kingdom Hearts 3 finally released, Final Fantasy VII Remake is the next major title from Square Enix that has been in development for awhile. If the PlayStation 5 is truly set to release sometime next year, perhaps Final Fantasy VII Remake could be one of those final major releases prior to the release of the new console.
We’ll have to wait and see what information Square Enix gives us during their E3 Square Enix Live stream on Monday, June 10th at 6:00 pm PT.
