The jolly gift-giving saint from the North Pole is mentioned in almost every household that celebrates the holiday, and he’s about to be reimagined in a way no one would expect.

Originally created by Paru Itagaki, creator of the highly underrated Beastars anime and manga, as well as being the daughter of Keisuke Itagaki, the creator of Baki, Sanda takes the classic holiday figure and turns him into a buffed-up action hero.

Why You Should Be Giving Sanda a Chance, Regardless of How It Looks

Sanda-official-manga-artwork-featuring-the-main-character-and-Santa
Paru Itagaki

Sanda takes place in 2080, where the Japanese birthrate is on a sharp decline, and the country has placed strict control policies on minors that’s resulted in arranged marriages becoming a social norm, and preventing young people from sleeping as to not hinder their development. Christmas has all but disappeared, and the idea of ‘Santa Claus’ is long forgotten due to being sealed away.

One faithful December 25th, the protagonist of the series, Sanda Kazushige, has their ‘seal’ broken by a classmate, causing him to look like Santa Claus. Sanda discovers he can control this transformation by eating jellybeans to turn back into himself, or by wearing red to turn into Santa. Sanda’s classmate broke the seal in hopes that Sanda would help her search for their missing classmate, and to restore society’s belief in Christmas.

The series, admittedly, has a pretty ridiculous premise – but much like Beastars, tackles many of the sociopolitical issues plaguing up-and-coming generations. The manga has excellent characters, and the incredible writing style that Paru Itagaki pours into all of her work make Sanda an incredibly unique series that everyone should be reading. Plus, the anime adaptation will be handled by Science Saru, well-known for producing Devilman Crybaby and the upcoming animated adaptation of Dandadan.

Crunchyroll Removes Comment Section From Platform Amid Safety Concerns https://attackofthefanboy.com/anime/crunchyroll-anime-streaming-removes-comment-section/ https://attackofthefanboy.com/anime/crunchyroll-anime-streaming-removes-comment-section/#respond Tue, 09 Jul 2024 16:10:50 +0000 https://attackofthefanboy.com/?p=986876 Crunchyroll is undoubtedly one of – if not the largest streaming platforms in the western world to watch anime. One aspect of the service that always helped it stand out was the comment section, which allowed anime fans to connect with one another by sharing their thoughts on new releases.

In a bold move, however, Crunchyroll recently completely removed the ability to comment on content across the entire site, including on their “Crunchyroll News” page.

Why Did Crunchyroll Remove Comments?

Crunchyroll-2024-anime-lineup-edited-image-featuring-the-Crunchyroll-mascot-and-3-upcoming-anime

The topic of Crunchyroll‘s removal of one of their core community features has been met with a great deal of scrutiny, but in a recent statement from the company, it seems as though they made the move with only the best intentions:

While some fans may not know what exactly happened that prompted a statement of this kind, it actually stems from the recent release of the BL (boys’ love) anime, Twilight Out of Focus. Boys’ Love anime being hosted on the platform isn’t surprising in the least, as anime like Given have existed for years, but for one reason or another, the new series was flooded with bigoted comments.

While unfortunate – and odd timing given other recent controversy that Crunchyroll has found themselves in with the alleged utilization of AI generated translations – it’s at least somewhat good to see the platform trying to protect users from absorbing unwarranted bigotry on the site. Popular anime content creator Mother’s Basement commented on the situation as well, saying the following on his public X account:

This is a developing story, and all information aside from what has been explicitly confirmed should be treated as alleged.

‘Omniscient Reader’ Anime Adaptation Officially Announced at Anime Expo https://attackofthefanboy.com/anime/omniscient-reader-manhwa-anime-officially-announced/ https://attackofthefanboy.com/anime/omniscient-reader-manhwa-anime-officially-announced/#respond Mon, 08 Jul 2024 19:04:03 +0000 https://attackofthefanboy.com/?p=986834 After the resounding success of Solo Leveling, it’s no surprise that anime fans would begin to see more adaptations of popular manhwa than ever before. While it’s been rumored for quite some time, it’s been made official that an anime adaptation of Omniscient Reader is finally in production.

The web novel, which was later adapted into a manhwa (or Korean webtoon), follows Dokja, an average office worker whose one and only hobby is reading a web novel titled Three Ways To Survive the Apocalypse. To his dismay – the story in the novel begins to become a reality, and he seems to be one of the only people who knows how to stop whatever’s happening.

Everything That’s Been Revealed About the Omniscient Reader Anime

While the anime adaptation has been licensed by Aniplex and will be streaming on Crunchyroll, there’s been no official word at this time what studio will be animating the project. Expectations are understandably high for the anime, given the original property is a fan-favorite among community members.

Again, given the recent success of Solo Leveling and Tower of God, it’s exciting to see the anime industry entering a new era of embracing Korean manhwa as viable properties for anime adaptations, given how much the webtoon and webnovel industries respectively have grown in recent years.

‘Lord of the Rings’ Anime Shares New Info at Anime Expo https://attackofthefanboy.com/anime/lord-of-the-rings-war-of-rohirrim-anime-movie-new-info-anime-expo/ https://attackofthefanboy.com/anime/lord-of-the-rings-war-of-rohirrim-anime-movie-new-info-anime-expo/#respond Fri, 05 Jul 2024 17:18:58 +0000 https://attackofthefanboy.com/?p=986733 Convention season is officially underway, and with it comes the biggest anime convention in the United States: Anime Expo in Los Angeles, CA. With the convention officially being kicked off on July 4, 2024, there have already been a number of incredible announcements and news that fans can’t wait to see more of.

One of the most exciting – and, admittedly, anxiety inducing due to the nature of fandom apprehension – upcoming titles that was featured at the convention is The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim. The upcoming anime film looks absolutely gorgeous, and the latest updates dropped by Warner Bros. and Sola Entertainment are making this project feel like a perfect addition to the ever growing Lord of the Rings franchise.

The upcoming anime film shared a brand new image/still from production, depicting the film’s lead, Héra, in an action shot of her valiantly riding a horse with clear concern on her face. Kenji Kamiyama, the films director, stated that, “In Japanese [anime], it’s not uncommon for a female protagonist to be the main character, but it’s more rare in live-action films like The Lord of the Rings. Our film has a strong female lead in Héra, and our story is narrated by the noble Tolkien figure Éowyn, so women are very well represented. I think their are a lot of fans of Tolkien’s original work, so I hope those people will enjoy it. Making this movie has been a fun challenge.”

In addition to having Kenji Kamiyama (Eden of the East, Blade Runner Black Lotus, Ghost In the Shell: Stand Alone Complex – Solid State Society –) directing, the rest of the upcoming film’s production team is also promising, including the Academy Award-winning screenwriter Philippa Boyens (The Lord of the Rings films, The Hobbit films) credited as a producer, plus Phoebe Grittins and Arty Papageorgiou writing the film’s screenplay.

The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim is set 183 years before the events of the original film trilogy, follows the tale of the House of Helm Hammerhand, the King of Rohan. After a sudden attack from Wulf, a cunning and dangerous Dunlending lord on a quest for revenge after losing his father, Helm and his people are forced to try and make a daring “last stand” in the ancient stronghold Hornburg, a fortress that is later referred to as Helm’s Deep. The film’s lead protagonist, Héra, Helm’s daughter, is pushed to lead the army to resist against Wulf and his forces bent on her people’s destruction.

The film is currently slated for a wide theatrical release on December 13, 2024 in the United States, and features the voice talents of Brian Cox, Miranda Otto, Gaia Wise as Héra, and Luke Pasqualino as Wulf.

The film has been a resounding success, making a whopping 172 million yen (1.06 million USD) with over 137,000 admissions.

On his official X account, Hideo Kojima noted that he found Look Back to be, “one of the most remarkable anime of the last decade.” He offered additional commentary, saying: “I was shaken to my core! ‘Tokyo Ghoul’ Finally Made Its Big Announcement – and Fans Feel Betrayed https://attackofthefanboy.com/anime/tokyo-ghoul-anime-manga-anniversary-announcement/ https://attackofthefanboy.com/anime/tokyo-ghoul-anime-manga-anniversary-announcement/#respond Wed, 03 Jul 2024 16:25:54 +0000 https://attackofthefanboy.com/?p=986649 Sui Ishida’s Tokyo Ghoul has proven itself to be far more than a dark, edgy story following a troubled and brooding hero. The original manga is a hauntingly well written character study that follows Ken Kaneki throughout various stages in his life, but manages to balance its darker themes with the underlying idea that life gets better.

While many fans of the series consider the manga a masterclass in storytelling and an absolute must-read, other adaptations of Sui Ishida’s work are far less favorable, and somehow, fans keep getting disappointed whenever Tokyo Ghoul tries to branch out its franchising opportunities.

Tokyo Ghoul Fans Feel Like the Series’ Latest Announcement Was Overhyped

To celebrate the series’ 10th anniversary, the official X account for Tokyo Ghoul began posting a cryptic countdown for a “big announcement”. Everyone’s mind went to the same place, obviously: Tokyo Ghoul would finally get the Brotherhood treatment. Unfortunately for many, instead of a new anime, Tokyo Ghoul will be celebrating the big “10” with an art exhibit.

While fans, especially those in the West, are understandably heartbroken to get their hopes dashed for a proper anime adaptation of such a beloved series; perhaps too many of us were putting faith in something that wasn’t even teased to be true. Plus, Sui Ishida’s latest series, Choujin X would be a far more interesting pick for a new anime.

While its narrative is relatively short compared to epic-length shonen franchises like Naruto and One Piece, Demon Slayer excels through its beautifully illustrated fight scenes and easily recognizable character designs.

In True Ufotable Fashion, the Infinity Castle Arc Will Be a Film Trilogy

Demon-Slayer

While there has been some mixed reception following the Hashira Training Arc anime adaptation, fans are more than excited to see what exactly an Infinity Castle anime adaptation means for the franchise. As previously mentioned, Demon Slayer‘s story is short, and it wears its themes and ideas on its sleeves – and while the other seasons and anime adaptations have been well produced, many believe that Ufotable is dragging the story out much longer than it needs to be.

While there is no release dates in place for the trilogy just yet, it has already been confirmed that Crunchyroll and Sony will have distribution rights; meaning that fans should expect a wide theater release in the US, as this has been the case for all previous Demon Slayer feature films.

The Best Anime To Watch If You Love Bridgerton https://attackofthefanboy.com/anime/must-watch-anime-bridgerton-fans/ https://attackofthefanboy.com/anime/must-watch-anime-bridgerton-fans/#respond Fri, 28 Jun 2024 16:01:20 +0000 https://attackofthefanboy.com/?p=985977 Shondaland’s televised adaptation of Julia Quinn’s bodice-ripper romance novel saga Bridgerton has been a global success, with fans residing in every corner of the world. With the series’ mass appeal, it shouldn’t come as a surprise that there are some Bridgerton fans that are also die-hard anime fans.

With the series being set in a fantastically reimagined regency England, colorful fashions, and heart-pounding romance sequences, there are plenty of anime, manga, and light novels that matches Bridgerton‘s energy and then some.

Why Raeliana Ended Up at the Duke’s Mansion

Raeliana-and-the-Duke-lying-together-in-bed

Technically situating itself as an isekai, Why Raeliana Ended Up at the Duke’s Mansion begins with the death of a young woman named Rinko, who is reborn as Raeliana – a beloved character from a novel. But Rinko is more than familiar with the source material she’s been reincarnated into: she’s destined to be murdered by her fiance. Using her knowledge of the original story, Raeliana comes up with a scheme to ensure her survival by seducing a duke with a devilish personality.

Clearly, for fans of Simon and Daphne’s relationship in Bridgerton‘s first season, Why Raeliana Ended Up at the Duke’s Mansion is a no-brainer for binge-watching. While many would think it a fairy tale to be reborn into their favorite novel, audiences get to see a different side of the coin wherein Raeliana is constantly fighting for her survival, all the while missing out on the duke falling deeply in love with her.

The Rose of Versailles

The-Rose-of-Versailles-new-anime-film-official-artwork

For those who like Bridgerton‘s fantastical take on the regency era and Shondaland’s unique approach to adapting fashion trends from the time, they may find themselves at home with The Rose of Versailles. Originally created by Riyoko Ikeda in 1972, The Rose of Versailles is a fictionalized retelling of Marie Antionette’s life during the French Revolution, but later shifts its focus to follow Oscar Francois de Jarjayes, the daughter of a French military commander who grows up to succeed his role.

While heavily fictionalized, The Rose of Versailles is intensely beautiful, and follows two very different experiences in womanhood and fighting for personal freedoms all while making commentary on social and economic disparity.

Snow White With the Red Hair

Snow-White-With-the-Red-Hair-official-artwork-from-the-anime-of-the-main-character-and-her-love-interest-touching-foreheads

Leaning far more into fantasy when compared to Bridgerton, Snow White With the Red Hair follows Shirayuki, an herbalist who resides in Tanbarun. Compared to the other citizens in the kingdom – her striking red hair. As she gets older, the first prince of the kingdom, Prince Raj, learns of her beautiful and unique trait; demanding that she become his concubine. Standing strong, Shirayuki reuses him, cutting her hair short and abandoning her home to travel to the neighboring kingdom of Clarines.

Later, she meets another prince named Zen Wistaria and his two aides, Mitsuhide and Kiki. Referencing it’s title – the infamous apple from the original fairy tale makes an appearance, and Prince Zen becomes poisoned. Shirayuki manages to cure him with her past herbalist experience, and begins to train in the palace to hone her skills for the royal family. Back in Tanbarun, Prince Raj realizes that he has real romantic feelings for Shirayuki, and begins to try and change his ways to win her favor; all the while, Zen and Shirayuki begin to fall hopelessly in love with one another.

One of the more charming “villainess reincarnation” series to be released after My Next Life as a Villainess: All Routes Lead To Doom!‘s unexpected success, 7th Time Loop follows a headstrong young woman named Rishe, whose life always starts out the same way – her getting rejected by her fiance, becoming exiled or running away to start fresh in a new occupation, only to be killed by a mysterious prince, or in the crossfire of a war that said prince starts.

In her latest and seventh life, Rishe abandons her fiance only to come face-to-face with with the man himself – Prince Arnold of the Galkhein kingdom. Arnold is taken by Rishe’s brash and determined personality, as well as her quick-with and dextrous timing with a blade. Because of this, he insists that Rishe marry him, instead, and takes her to Galkhein to make her his bride. Serving as an almost one-sided enemies to lovers story, 7th Time Loop is an intriguing story that makes its male lead perfectly mysterious in an “I can fix him” sort of way that’s hard to pull yourself away from.

Arte

From childhood, Arte has had an immense talent and love for painting, but when her father unexpectedly passes away, her mother tries to push her to give up her pursuit of the arts and marry well to ensure her future – something that fans of Bridgerton have seen explored time and time again in its female characters’ storylines.

The best anime for fans of House of the Dragon https://attackofthefanboy.com/anime/the-best-anime-for-fans-of-house-of-the-dragon/ https://attackofthefanboy.com/anime/the-best-anime-for-fans-of-house-of-the-dragon/#respond Thu, 27 Jun 2024 07:02:52 +0000 https://attackofthefanboy.com/?p=985922 It would be an understatement to refer to House of the Dragon as anything other than a cultural phenomenon. While Game of Thrones began to receive ample criticism in its final seasons, House of the Dragon has been far more consistent, and has provided fans with exactly what they wanted from the franchise.

Perhaps surprisingly, there are a number of anime and manga that share similar themes, world-building sensibilities, and character writing that fans of the sensational television series would have a hard time ignoring if they new what they were missing out on.

Kingdom

Kingdom-official-artwork-featuring-the-main-character

While not nearly as popular in the West as it should be due to a lack of localization and publication in English, Kingdom is a fictionalized take on real historical events in China. Taking place in the Warring States Period, the story follows to orphans, Shin and Hyou, who reside in Qin. Hyou is eventually taken to the palace and barely escapes alive, while meets a young man that resembles Hyou, named Ei Sei.

While it may seem a bit slow on the surface, Kingdom is an epic story that has several characters based on real historical figures, and gives a unique take on one of the biggest foundational periods in Chinese history. What it lacks in dragons, magic, and other high fantasy staples it more than makes up for in political drama and exciting battles.

Code Geass

Official-artwork-from-Code-Geass-featuring-Lelouch-and-CC

Code Geass is far from a traditional high fantasy anime – taking place in an alternate-reality dystopian future, but it does contain all the political intrigue, backstabbing, and drama that fans of House of Dragon can’t get enough of.

As previously mentioned, Code Geass takes place in Japan years after being conquered by the Holy Empire of Britannia, now called Area 11. The Empire has stripped the citizens of their rights and refer to them as “Elevens”, keeping them in check with a militaristic government and deadly, high tech weaponry. The series’ protagonist, Lelouch, is an ambitious young man that gains the ability to use a “Geass” – a mysterious power that allows him to completely take control of other people, hoping to build a new world following his political ideals.

Tales of Earthsea

Tales-of-Earthsea-screengrab-of-the-main-character-reaching-out-to-touch-a-large-dragon

While not as political as other fantasy series fans of House of Dragon might be expecting, Tales of Earthsea still has many strong attributes to make it worth adding to their watchlists. Tales of Earthsea takes place in the eponymous fantasy nation, threatened by a mysterious force that could plunge humanity into chaos. The film primarily follows a wizard named Sparrowhawk seeking to find a solution to this problem, and along the way, meet a young priestess and a runaway prince.

An adventure film at its core, Tales of Earthsea is a unique fantasy film from Studio Ghibli with a dedicated cult following. Its lush world and fantastical setting make it feel like a storybook to life, which, while not nearly as gritty as the drama in House of Dragon, can still be a nice break for fans wishing that they could see more of the world in the series.

Yona of the Dawn

Yona-of-the-Dawn-screencap-o-the-main-characters-hair-blowing-in-the-wind

While many anime fans think that the shojo demographic exclusively caters to those looking for heart-stopping romance series – this couldn’t be farther from the truth. While Yona of the Dawn has some romantic elements, at its core, the series is a politically-driven high fantasy that’s perfect for House of the Dragon fans to add to their watchlists.

Yona of the Dawn follows the titular Yona, the sole princess of Kouka, who lives a sheltered life as royalty; kept safe from the grim reality hiding just beyond the Crimson Dragon Castle she resides in. Despite her cozy lifestyle – Kouka is on the verge of ruin, and Yona is none the wiser. On the eve of her 16th birthday, Yona’s crush of over 10 years, Su-on, visits with her father to declare his intentions. After being turned away, Yona attempts to talk to her father, the king, to change his mind, only to find Su-on assassinating him. Yona and her bodyguard are forced out of the castle as fugitives, and she embarks on a journey to find a way to earn the throne.

Maquia: When the Promised Flower Blooms

Maquia-screencap-of-the-main-charater-smiling-in-a-field-of-flowers

While far from being the same type of story as House of the Dragon on the surface, Maquia: When the Promised Flower Blooms is an exceptional fantasy film that blends political intrigue and family drama just as effortlessly as the aforementioned television series. Maquia‘s world-building is incredibly lush for being a stand-alone film, and all its main characters are easy to get attached to and sympathize with by the time the film unveils its heart-wrenching ending.

Maquia: When the Promised Flower Blooms follows the people of Iolph, a notable race of people known for their eternally youthful appearances and their pacifism – living peaceful lives weaving tapestries. Other humans believe that the people’s blood is a font of youth, leading to their society being invaded and thrust into chaos. One of the survivors, Maquia, begins to wander aimlessly until she comes across an orphaned boy. The child gives her life a new purpose, and the rest of the film watches Maquia raising the boy from a rambunctious child into a soldier.

Summer 2024’s Most Highly Anticipated Seasonal Anime https://attackofthefanboy.com/anime/summer-2024s-most-highly-anticipated-seasonal-anime/ https://attackofthefanboy.com/anime/summer-2024s-most-highly-anticipated-seasonal-anime/#respond Tue, 25 Jun 2024 22:59:02 +0000 https://attackofthefanboy.com/?p=985883 The summer anime season is always an exciting time for fans of the medium, promising brand-new shows and continuations of series from the Winter and Spring seasons to keep fans hooked for the remainder of the year. The past two years have been massive for the industry, and this season proves that, with a loaded catalogue that’s sure to make it difficult for anime fans to nail down what exactly they’ll want to watch.

In addition to feature films like My Hero Academia: You’re Next, Kimi no Iro, and the return of the Monogatari series with the animated adaptation of Off & Monster Season, here’s every Summer 2024 series we can’t wait to watch.

Kimi ni Todoke 3rd Season

Finally returning a whole decade after season 2 concluded, Kimi ni Todoke‘s anime adaptation is returning in full swing during the Summer 2024 anime season. With the original cast reprising their roles and Production I.G. picking up where they left off with the previous adaptation, there’s plenty for shojo fans to be excited about with this upcoming season.

While new fans unfamiliar with the anime’s original release may have a harder time diving into the series by having to watch the first two seasons, longtime fans have been looking forward to season 3 since it was originally announced by Netflix in September of 2023. Following Sawako, a teenage girl that’s mocked by her classmates for looking like the ghoulish horror icon “Sadako”, hopes to find new friends amid rumors about her, and ends up discovering much more in the process.

Tower of God Season 2

One of the most popular manhwa to hit the mainstream with an impeccable anime adaptation, Tower of God fans were left with no updates regarding a secon season for quite some time, but thankfully, this summer will finally unveil what Sola Entertainment has been working so hard on.

Instead of focusing on the previous season’s protagonist, Bam, Tower of God instead puts a spotlight on Ja Wangnan – a young man struggling to make it past the tower’s 20th floor. In his struggles, he encounters the mysterious Viole. The two begin traveling together, taking on the otherworldy struggles of the tower together as they ascend.

My Deer Friend Nokotan

While WIT studio is well renowned for their work on series like Attack on Titan, Spy x Family, and Vinland Saga, the studio has begun to expand into more eccentric territory by adapting the slapstick deer-girl series My Deer Friend Nokotan. The anime has already gone viral thanks to its over-the-top marketing and ear-bug of an opening theme, and its likely to stick around once the anime finally begins to air.

My Deer Friend Nokotan follows Torako Koshi, an upstanding high school student who rescues a strange deer-human hybrid on her way home from school. The girl later transfers to Torako’s school, and begins following her around. Even worse – Shikanoko, the mysterious deer girl – somehow knows that Torako used to be a delinquent, and Torako is the only person who seems to know there’s something off about her new classmate.

Suicide Squad Isekai

Suicide-Squad-key-visual-featuring-Harley-Quinn-Deadshot-King-Shark-and-Peacemaker

In addition to tackling eccentric comedies like My Deer Friend Nokotan, WIT Studio will also be working alongside DC comics to produce Suicide Squad Isekai. While the concept is admittedly out there, the idea of putting of some of DC’s most iconic characters in an oversaturated anime genre is interesting.

Suicide Squad Isekai follows the eponymous super-villain group as they’re sent on a mission by A.R.G.U.S. through a portal to a fantasy realm filled with orcs, dragons, and other fantastical threats roam free. As soon as the group make it to the fantasy realm, they get arrested, and after a discussion with Queen Aldora are sent on a quest to conquer her enemies. The premise sounds outlandish, even by Suicide Squad standards, but the animation quality from the trailers looks infectiously fun, making the series one to keep an eye on.

Oshi no Ko Season 2

Image From Doga Kobo

One of the most sensational anime in the last decade, Oshi no Ko, is returning with its second season this summer. From the marketing materials, it seems as though the anime will be covering the Movie arc, one of the most popular in the manga, and will begin exploring many of the deeper psychological components in the series’ main character, Aqua. Doga Kobo will be returning to produce the new season, and with a live action adaptation on the way as well, 2024 will likely be dominated by Oshi no Ko.

The murder mystery series has a penchant for making poignant commentary on Japan’s entertainment industry, especially the treatment of idols and idol culture, which has made the series a stand-out hit for anime fans familiar with the culture, and has introduced other fans to the dark underbelly of the entertainment industry. While Oshi no Ko does have a lingering supernatural element to its storytelling, the narrative feels raw and is loaded with surprisingly heavy themes for a series that, on the surface, appears of colorful.

How to Watch All American Pie Movies in Order https://attackofthefanboy.com/movies-tv/how-to-watch-all-american-pie-movies-in-order/ https://attackofthefanboy.com/movies-tv/how-to-watch-all-american-pie-movies-in-order/#respond Wed, 15 Nov 2023 20:02:19 +0000 https://attackofthefanboy.com/?p=965346 Since the first American Pie movie came out in 1999, the film series established itself as a worldwide pop culture phenomenon with a cult following of youngsters.

Full of gag comedy and crazy situations, the franchise retains its re-watch value even decades later. But with nine different parts, it can be a bit difficult to figure out the exact watch order. Keep reading to learn how to watch all the American Pie movies in order.

All American Pie Movies Viewing Order

The full American Pie series consists of four main movies following the same cast as the one released in 1999 and five spin-offs. All nine movies are set in East Great Falls High School, and while the four original movies are sequels taking off where the last one left, they can still be watched as standalone.

The five spin-offs are all completely independent with a fresh cast of characters — although they sometimes feature cameos from the original cast. With all that in mind, there are two different ways to enjoy this iconic comedy series. The first is to watch all nine movies in the order in which they were released as shown below.

  • American Pie – 1999

  • American Pie Presents: The Naked Mile – 2006
  • American Pie Presents: Beta House – 2007
  • American Pie Presents: The Book of Love – 2009
  • American Reunion – 2012
  • American Pie Presents: Girls’ Rules – 2020

The second way is to first watch the four main movies following the original cast in chronological order as follows.

  • American Pie – 1999
  • American Pie 2 – 2001
  • American Wedding – 2003
  • American Reunion – 2012

Once you’re done with the main series, you can move on to the spin-offs. As the five spin-off movies are completely independent, they don’t have a set watch order. But if you’d like to keep things nice and orderly, you can watch them in their order of release (that coincides with their chronology) as recommended below.

  • American Pie Presents: Band Camp – 2005
  • American Pie Presents: The Naked Mile – 2006
  • American Pie Presents: Beta House – 2007
  • American Pie Presents: The Book of Love – 2009

Do You Need to Watch The Hunger Games Movies Before The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes? https://attackofthefanboy.com/movies-tv/do-you-need-to-watch-the-hunger-games-movies-before-the-ballad-of-songbirds-snakes/ https://attackofthefanboy.com/movies-tv/do-you-need-to-watch-the-hunger-games-movies-before-the-ballad-of-songbirds-snakes/#respond Tue, 14 Nov 2023 16:59:45 +0000 https://attackofthefanboy.com/?p=965154 The dystopian world of Panem is set to make its cinematic return in The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes. This begs an obvious question: do you need to watch the other films in The Hunger Games series before seeing The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes?

Set half a century before the events of the other films in the series, The Ballad of Songbird and Snakes tells the origin story of one of the most important characters in The Hunger Games mythos: Coriolanus Snow. As is always the case with prequels, one could argue that you don’t need to watch previous The Hunger Games films before The Ballad of Songbird and Snakes. Let’s settle the debate, shall we?

Do You Need to Watch The Hunger Games Series to Understand The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes?

The-Ballad-of-Songbirds-and-Snakes-Lucy-Grey-Baird-min
Image: Lionsgate

You don’t technically need to watch The Hunger Games movies before watching The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes, but I’d personally recommend that you do. The Hunger Games trilogy is leagues better than most other high-budget cinematic adaptions of best-selling young-adult dystopian novels. As a massive fan of The Hunger Games books, I highly recommend watching them if you’re one of the many kids who read YA dystopia books growing up.

Related: Do You Need to Watch Castlevania Seasons 1-4 Before Nocturne?

Outside of the simple pleasure of watching great adaptions of already-fantastic books, The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes is chock-full of world-building that helps explain why the world of Panem is the way it is by the time The Hunger Games series begins. The film explores how the titular juvenile gladiator tournament at the heart of the series came to be while also revealing how the series’ primary villain used the bloody spectacle to facilitate his rise to power.

Trailers for The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes have already hinted at some of the ways the film alludes to the film set after it, so it’s probably safe to assume that the film itself will feature plenty of references to other characters and events within the series. If you love to comb through films for easter eggs to other movies, you’ll want to watch the rest of The Hunger Games films before you see The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes.

What is The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes About?

The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes recounts the origins of Coriolanus Snow, who one day becomes the president of “The Capital,” the authoritarian city-state that governs Panem. Desperate to restore his aristocratic family to its former glory, Coriolanus agrees to mentor Lucy Gray Baird, one of two tributes from District Twelve set to compete in the 10th Annual Hunger Games.

Despite their radically different backgrounds and beliefs, Coriolanus and Lucy form a strong bond as they work to ensure that Lucy wins (aka survives) the Hunger Games. However, as the pressure to transform the Hunger Games into a symbol of the Capital’s power mounts, Coriolanus is forced to make choices that, ultimately, see him begin his transformation into the grizzled monster that The Hunger Games fans meet at the end of the first book.

How to Watch the ‘Jaws’ Movies in Order https://attackofthefanboy.com/movies-tv/how-to-watch-the-jaws-movies-in-order/ https://attackofthefanboy.com/movies-tv/how-to-watch-the-jaws-movies-in-order/#respond Wed, 08 Nov 2023 21:19:52 +0000 https://attackofthefanboy.com/?p=963392 The release of the original Jaws was a seminal moment in film history, and it did not take long for Universal Pictures to commission a school of sequels. While none of these films managed to recreate their predecessor’s landmark success, they performed reasonably well at the box office and helped cement the “shark movie” subgenre as a modern horror film staple.

The Jaws franchise has been dormant for several decades, but that shouldn’t stop you from checking them out if you want to see the films that instilled the fear of sharks and the ocean into an entire generation of moviegoers. If you are a new fish, here’s how to wade through the Jaws movies in order.

Jaws Movies Watch Order

Jaws-Chief-Broady

The Jaws franchise consists of a quartet of films, all of which tell what is essentially the same story: a particularly vicious shark finds its way into waters frequented by humans, forcing one or more members of the Brody family to face off against the aquatic predator to end it’s feeding frenzy. While the first Jaws film featured a relatively grounded story of man vs. nature, the following sequels tried to up the ante by presenting their titular antagonists as much more vicious, intelligent, and persistent killers.

Related: How to Watch Every Despicable Me Movie in Order

Speaking personally, I recommend watching the Jaws films in the order they were released. While the overarching story of the Jaws franchise isn’t particularly prominent, there is an ongoing narrative woven across all of the films that rewards viewers who have seen the previous films. Here’s our recommended watch order for the Jaws tetralogy.

  • Jaws
  • Jaws II
  • Jaws 3-D
  • Jaws: The Revenge

Where Can You Watch The Jaws Movies?

Jaws-Shark

Jaws is one of the biggest names in horror cinema, and there are many ways to watch or stream all four movies. Every film in the Jaws tetralogy can be streamed on Netflix, but you can buy or rent them on other websites if you don’t have a Netflix subscription. Amazon, YouTube, Vudu, and Redbox are just a few websites that allow you to buy or rent the Jaws series, so your biggest hurdle standing between you and a Jaws movie night will be convincing your shark-fearing friends to watch them with you.

Within five years, Pitch Perfect was joined by two sequels, Pitch Perfect 2 and Pitch Perfect 3. Every Sicario Movie in Order, Explained https://attackofthefanboy.com/movies-tv/every-sicario-movie-in-order-explained/ https://attackofthefanboy.com/movies-tv/every-sicario-movie-in-order-explained/#respond Fri, 03 Nov 2023 23:29:47 +0000 https://attackofthefanboy.com/?p=962094 The Sicario series stands as an apex predator in the action-thriller landscape. Existing as both a high-octane, ultra-violent adrenaline rush and a surprisingly thoughtful critique of the United States’ war against the Mexican drug trade, both films in the series are a must-watch for any fan of action filmmaking.

With a third film in production, now is the perfect time to check out the Sicario series if you haven’t already. We’ve charted the perfect Sicario watch order, so read on if you’re ready to witness some of the most intense action ever captured on film.

The Sicario franchise consists of only two films: the original Sicario and its direct sequel, Sicario: Day of the Soldado. Both films follow the murderous exploits of Benicio Del Toro’s Alejandro Gillick, a former Mexican prosecutor-turned-assassin with a bitter grudge against the brutal cartels who operate his home county’s prolific drug trade. Both Sicario films were met with critical acclaim upon their release for the quality of their action choreography and performances, with del Toro’s performance in particular receiving the lion’s share of praise.

He is recognized for his frequent playthroughs of horror video games, including all of the main series Five Nights at Freddy’s games. With 114 million views on his first FNAF video, many consider Mark essential for the franchise’s success.

Markiplier was invited to appear in Five Nights at Freddy’s; however, a schedule conflict with his upcoming Iron Lung movie meant he was sadly unable to attend the filming. In a YouTube comment, series creator Scott Cawthon said that if he’s “fortunate enough to work on a sequel, then hopefully we will have another shot at getting [Markiplier] into a FNAF movie!”

If the post-credits are anything to go by, we may see the king of FNAF star alongside Freddy, Bonnie, Chica, and Foxy in the future — and we will be watching.

One of the most prominent players in this conspiracy was Willian King Hale, a cattle baron willing to do anything to claim “his share” of the Osage’s wealth. For those unfamiliar with one of the darkest chapters of American history, here’s everything you need to know about Killer of the Flower Moons‘ William King Hale.

Who is William King Hale?

Image: Apple TV+

Born in 1874 in either Greenville or Cambell, Texas, William King Hale was one of the many business tycoons who dominated the socio-political landscape of the United States in the early 20th century. During the decades leading up to the mid-1920s, Hale amassed a sizeable personal fortune through trading cattle to Oklahoman Native American tribes like the Osage, quickly becoming one of the wealthiest men in the state.

While Hale went to great lengths to present himself as a benevolent businessman, his enterprise was built on fraud and intimidation, as he frequently used bribery and threats of violence to ensure he had an unfair advantage against the tribes he traded with. This ruthlessness would reach a terrifying crescendo during the Osage Murders, the tragedy that inspired Killers of the Flower Moon.

In 1897, the Osage tribe discovered and claimed a massive oil reserve beneath their reservation. Almost overnight, the Osage tribe became unimaginably rich, drawing the attention and ire of white onlookers. Driven by the racist belief the Osages were too “uncivilized” to manage their newfound wealth, the United States Congress passed a law that required courts to appoint “guardians” to oversee the finances of all Osages of more than half-blood lineage. Many of these court-appointed guardians were influential local leaders like Hale.

After arranging for his nephew Ernest Burkhart to marry Mollie Kyle, the heiress to a wealthy Osage family, Hart conspired with several accomplices to systematically assassinate Kyle’s extended family, with the end goal being to kill Kyle and claim her family’s fortune through Ernest. Fortunately, Hale’s plans fell apart when the Federal Bureau of Investigation was alerted to the suspicious deaths by the Osage tribe’s leading council. Hale, Ernest, and their co-conspirators were arrested after a lengthy investigation, but not before they successfully murdered many of Kyle’s family members.

During his trial, Hale pulled every string he could to try and escape justice, but he was eventually convicted of murder and sentenced to life in prison. Unfortunately, he was released after only eighteen years. He worked as a ranch hand in Montana for several years before moving to Arizona and passing away in a nursing home in 1962, allegedly showing no remorse for his crimes.

Martin Scorsese is regarded as one of the best directors of all time, so it should be no surprise that Killers of the Flower Moon boasts one of the most star-studded casts ever assembled. Academy Award winner Robert Di Nero, a longtime Scorsese collaborator, will be stepping into the shoes of William King Hale. Di Nero has a long track record of playing powerful and unscrupulous individuals who use their power to control others, so he’s a perfect choice to play a man as corrupt and despicable as Hale.

A lot has already been said about the film, from its important story to the fact it’s surely going to be nominated for numerous Academy Awards. But arguably, the biggest talking point of the movie comes down to its massive runtime. After giving people the three-hour epic of The Irishman, Scorsese’s followed it up with a film that clocks in at 3 hours and 26 minutes. That’s a long time, and it may make some people think twice about buying a large soda.

There Is No Intermission for Killers of the Flower Moon

If you plan on seeing Killers of the Flower Moon in theaters, you better have a strong bladder. Theaters are not offering an intermission for this film, which has become par the course lately. Numerous films lately have surpassed three hours, including Avengers: Endgame and Avatar: The Way of Water. And anyone seeing those movies in theaters has to sit there the entire time if they don’t want to miss a single second.

Intermissions used to be commonplace in movie theaters in the United States. They served a practical purpose because they allowed the projectionist to swap out a new reel of film without making the audience sit there in silence and darkness. Over the past few decades, they’ve gradually been phased out, and now, it’s hard to find them anymore. The death of the intermission allows theaters to pack in more screenings a day, but it also means viewers have to choose between missing a potentially valuable part of the film or sitting there with their legs crossed uncomfortably.

The good news about Killers of the Flower Moon is that it’s an Apple TV+ original, so it should become available on the streaming platform in the near future. While it’ll surely be a transcendental experience watching the film on IMAX, there’s also something to be said about being able to pause when you want, so you can use the restroom and grab a snack when you need it.

Apple TV+ is one of the more underrated streaming services available at the moment. It’s even compatible with gaming (though not on the same level as a PlayStation just yet). It’s a giant boon the streamer managed to secure Martin Scorsese’s latest, and it seems like Apple wants as many people to see this movie in theaters as possible because it’s playing coy as to when it’s coming to streaming.

If you go to the Killers of the Flower Moon page on Apple TV+, there’s no release date available yet. It simply says, “Coming At a Later Date.” However, if you’re already a subscriber, then you can click a button that says “Add to Up Next” to get notified right away when it becomes available. Killers of the Flower Moon holds a budget of $200 million, so Apple probably wants to make sure it gets some kind of guaranteed return on its massive investment. Plus, it’s Scorsese, so if he wants to keep his movie in theaters for a while, no studio’s going to go against him.

Killers of the Flower Moon is a monumental achievement in filmmaking. So anyone who wants to experience it the way it should be seen (on the biggest screen possible) would do well to see it in theaters while they can.

What is The Fall of the House of Usher About?

The-Fall-of-the-House-of-Usher-Napoleon-Usher
Image: Netflix

The Fall of the House of Usher tells the morbid tale of the Usher family, the heretical dynasty behind the incredibly influential (and highly corrupt) Fortunato Pharmaceuticals corporation. When his heirs begin dying in gruesome and unnatural ways, Roderick Usher, the family’s patriarch, is forced to face the consequences of his past choices. At the peak of this mountain of misdeeds is the deal he and his sister Madeline made with Verna, a demonic entity who granted the two’s childhood wishes at a terrible cost.

The Fall of the House of Usher is a re-telling of the short story of the same name by Edgar Allen Poe. While the original text presents the Usher family as a much smaller clan, Flanagan’s take on The Fall of the House of Usher radically expands the scope of the story’s cast, introducing a massive host of new characters inspired by those featured in other Poe stories and poems.

Who Plays Zheng Yi Sao in Our Flag Means Death? https://attackofthefanboy.com/movies-tv/omfd-zheng-yi-sao-actress/ https://attackofthefanboy.com/movies-tv/omfd-zheng-yi-sao-actress/#respond Fri, 13 Oct 2023 15:30:33 +0000 https://attackofthefanboy.com/?p=955747 Ruibo Qian is the talented actress playing Zheng Yi Sao in season 2 of Our Flag Means Death, and she’s doing it flawlessly. She started off the season in episode 1 “Impossible Birds” as simply Susan the maker of yummy soup. Imagine Oluwande’s surprise when his favorite food vendor turned out to be none other than legendary pirate queen Zheng Yi Sao!

Ruibo Qian Before OMFD

Like any dedicated actor, Ruibo has been paying her dues in Hollywood for years now. She’s been featured in female-focused TV shows like Broad City and Jessica Jones. She later got her first big break as Dr. Bethany in the Oscar-winning film Manchester by the Sea.

Black Mirror fans with a particularly sharp eye might even recognize her as Penelope Wu from season 5, episode 2, “Smithereens,” She played the COO to Topher Grace’s CEO character Billy Bauer. Back then, she was trying to mitigate the chaos. Now, she’s bringing it as Zheng Yi Sao in Our Flag Means Death.

The Real Pirate Queen of OMFD

Creator David Jenkins has a love/hate relationship with historical accuracy. While he loves using real-life figures, he hates doing so within their original timelines. So what if Captains Stede Bonnett and Blackbeard sailed the open seas at different times in their lives? Now they’re co-existing in a love affair gone wrong.

Okay, maybe hate is a strong word since Zheng Yi Sao is as awesome in Our Flag Means Death as she was in real life. Maybe she didn’t have an all-woman crew, and she worked as a sex worker rather than a soup chef. But she was definitely kicking butt and taking names across the oceans of China.

We’re excited for more Ruiban Qian. Things have taken a turn for the worse now that Stede’s crew has revolted against Zheng Yi Sao. What she’ll do in the next episode of Our Flag Means Death is anybody’s guess. One thing’s for sure, though: she’ll do it with impeccable style.

Loki Season 2 Multiverse Explained: What to Expect, Questions & Theories https://attackofthefanboy.com/movies-tv/loki-season-2-multiverse/ https://attackofthefanboy.com/movies-tv/loki-season-2-multiverse/#respond Thu, 12 Oct 2023 16:16:35 +0000 https://attackofthefanboy.com/?p=955517 The multiverse is back for season 2 of Loki, so now’s the perfect time to explain how it’s throwing everything into complete disarray. Morbius doesn’t remember Loki. . . or does he? Loki seems to be zapping between two different versions of the TVA with no end in sight. Also, where the heck is Sylvie?

Loki season 1 revealed that a Kang variant named He Who Remains was the true creator of the TVA. Even more shocking? Its employees were originally plucked from other timelines and put to work with no memory of their past. While Loki is running around like a headless chicken trying to solve his own multiverse predicament, they’re caught in one of their own.

Loki Season 2 Multiverse Expectations

In classic MCU form, the trailer for Loki season 2 is as thrilling as it is baffling. Something is wrong with Loki, and Mobius is trying to save him. Meanwhile, the multiverse is still unraveling due to Sylvie murdering He Who Remains, and the results are as off-the-wall as you might expect.

Hunter B-15 has joined in on the hijinks and we’ll finally see her outside of her element. The trailer shows her jumping through time with Loki and Mobius. To what end? We don’t know. Season 2, episode 1, “Ouroboros” left us with more questions than answers. Speaking of which. . .

Loki Season 2 Questions

mcu_lokis2multiverse_questions
Image: Marvel Studios

What happened to the timelines of the multiverse?

General Dox was one of many TVA agents who refused to believe they’d been lied to by Ravonna Renslayer and the Time Keepers. So, she led a rebel force in using time doors to prune the new branches of the timeline. Leaving millions dead is only the tip of the iceberg of how this devastating event will impact the rest of Loki season 2.

Where is Miss Minutes?

Renslayer showed her true colors and took off last season. But Miss Minutes has been strangely absent from her post in season 2. The TVA is falling further into disarray. We’re no closer to finding out where they’ve been since the multiverse fell apart. Without Miss Minutes, though, things are going to get a lot worse.

Fan Theories for Loki Season 2

mcu_lokis2multiverse_theories
Image: Marvel Studios

While this new episode has left us with even more questions, it’s also sparked some cool theories. The most prominent is about the shiny object Sylvie was holding just before the end credits rolled. We’re not talking about its identity since it’s clearly the time bangle of He Who Remains.

The real theories come in when fans try to figure out why she has it. She might be trying to save the version of Broxton, OK that she’s come to call home. If she’s planning on destroying the TVA, then she did a terrible job what with all those heroics alongside Loki and Mobius.

Whatever she has planned will either make her a problem or an ally in this fight. Loki season 2 can only keep fans hanging in suspense for so long before we start getting antsy. The next episode won’t wrap up the multiverse dilemma, but at least we can still fawn over how cool it is to have Ke Huy Quan in the cast.

Gev V vs. The Boys Comic Differences: Tek Knight, G-Men, and More Changes https://attackofthefanboy.com/movies-tv/gev-v-vs-the-boys-comic-differences-tek-knight-g-men-and-more-changes/ https://attackofthefanboy.com/movies-tv/gev-v-vs-the-boys-comic-differences-tek-knight-g-men-and-more-changes/#respond Thu, 12 Oct 2023 01:22:55 +0000 https://attackofthefanboy.com/?p=955504 Anyone who read The Boys comics will tell you the Amazon Prime Video series borrows very liberally from the source material. Many characters are brought over, and there’s still the overarching story of the titular Boys trying to take down Homelander and other Supes. Other than that, the show is a different beast entirely. And the same can be said of the new spinoff, Gen V. There are no Gen V comics out there to speak of, but there are components from the comics adapted loosely to tell what’s pretty much a brand-new story. You don’t need to have read any comics to enjoy Gen V, but here’s what you’re missing out on.

The Boys Aren’t in Gen V At All

gen-v-the-boys-spinoff-6511dacc7dccc
Image: Brooke Palmer/Prime Video

The driving force of Gen V is loosely adapted from the seventh story arc of The Boys comics, called “We Gotta Go Now.” It’s a self-contained story that sees the Boys infiltrate a superhero collective called the G-Men, making fun of the X-Men before they enter the Marvel Cinematic Universe properly. These are teenage Supes still learning their powers who are overseen by John Godolkin. In Gen V, it’s stated how Godolkin University was founded by Patrick Godolkin.

While teenage superheroes make for intriguing fodder, there will be no Boys in Gen V (that we know of at this point). While there have been some cameos from other characters, the protagonist of Gen V is an entirely new character named Marie Moreau. Even if the Boys do factor into the story somehow, there’s a good chance they will be mere cameos.

They Aren’t Quite G-Men in Gen V

G-Men-The-Boys
Image: Dynamite Comics

In the comics, the Boys battle the G-Men, the antagonists of “We Gotta Go Now.” However, Gen V takes a far more nuanced approach to depicting the teenage supes. For starters, no one has mentioned “G-Men” on Gen V … yet. And even if an official organization emerges, it’s not like all the kids at Godolkin University would be part of it.

Gen V is an X-Men story in so much that it’s about younger superheroes learning how to use their powers. But as we’ve seen in the first few episodes, many of them genuinely want to do good, and they could very well become valuable allies in the Boys’ mission to take down Homelander.

Tek Knight Gets a Makeover

tek-knight-6520527843d49
Image: Prime Video

In The Boys comics, Tek Knight doesn’t have superpowers. He’s a parody of Batman and Iron Man, so he’s basically just a rich guy who can afford some cool toys. Gen V changes this and gives him some powers to rival that of the world’s greatest detective. He can pick up on subtle cues to determine if someone is lying, making him an incredibly dangerous adversary.

Tek Knight also doesn’t host a streaming series in the comics, but one trait that did carry over was his proclivity for holes. He has a penchant in both mediums for having sex with inanimate objects, a result of a brain tumor. It goes to show how The Boys and Gen V borrow what they need to and create something original for the rest.

Godolkin Is Left Out of Gen V for Now

BRDC32X3MBBVZJTTZKSBQVM2GY
Image: Dynamite Comics

One of the biggest pieces of praise The Boys has earned is how it’s wisely left off some of the more unsavory aspects of the comics. If you think The Boys pushes the envelope, you have to see what Garth Ennis did. One of these changes appears to be removing any Godolkin from the plot of Gen V.

In the comics, John Godolkin kidnaps children, exposes them to Compound V, and abuses them. In essence, “We Gotta Go Now” posits the question of what it would be like if Professor X was a serial abuser. It may be too much for some, so Gen V leaves him out for now although there definitely does appear to be something sinister going on at God U. Abuse is still taking place in some manner, but it may have been toned down to make it more palatable.

Gen V has already made many wise decisions when it comes to expanding The Boys universe. And who knows? Maybe future episodes will reveal even further depravity (it’s pretty much a guarantee at this point).

Where to Watch the New Goosebumps TV Show Online https://attackofthefanboy.com/movies-tv/where-to-watch-the-new-goosebumps-tv-show-online/ https://attackofthefanboy.com/movies-tv/where-to-watch-the-new-goosebumps-tv-show-online/#respond Thu, 12 Oct 2023 00:50:26 +0000 https://attackofthefanboy.com/?p=955500 Many kids grew up reading R.L. Stine’s Goosebumps books. If they were fans of those, they probably watched the anthology series that ran from 1995 to 1998. Each episode basically adapted a different book that children of all ages could find on Fox Kids (or Cartoon Network). The popularity of the middle school-friendly horror stories remains pertinent to this day, as a new adaptation is on the horizon. Instead of following an anthology format, the new Goosebumps show will be serialized, following an overarching narrative that still incorporates elements from classic Goosebumps stories. So where can you watch 2023’s Goosebumps in all its gory glory?

2023’s Goosebumps Will Be Available on Hulu, Disney+, and Freeform

The most recent live-action Goosebumps adaptations were a pair of films that came out in 2015 and 2018, starring Jack Black as R.L. Stine, that came from Sony Pictures. However, the new show comes courtesy of Disney, meaning it shouldn’t come as a surprise the new series will be available on Disney+. But don’t fret if you don’t have a Disney+ subscription, as the series will receive a dual release on Hulu on the same day — October 13. The first five episodes of the season debut on that day with five more episodes coming out weekly.

For those of you who still have cable, you’re in luck, too. A press release from Disney states the first two episodes will also be shown on Freeform on October 13 as part of the channel’s 31 Nights of Halloween. Suffice it to say, Disney is going all in to make sure as many people as possible see the newest tale of terror.

Whether you grew up reading Goosebumps or have kids of your own you want to introduce the series to, it’s the perfect thing to watch with the whole family. But viewers beware, you’re in for a scare.

Do You Need to Read Any Goosebumps Books Before Diving Into the New Disney+/Hulu Series? https://attackofthefanboy.com/movies-tv/do-you-need-to-read-any-goosebumps-books-before-diving-into-the-new-disney-hulu-series/ https://attackofthefanboy.com/movies-tv/do-you-need-to-read-any-goosebumps-books-before-diving-into-the-new-disney-hulu-series/#respond Thu, 12 Oct 2023 00:37:34 +0000 https://attackofthefanboy.com/?p=955497 Goosebumps was a part of many people’s childhoods. For many, it was their first introduction to horror, and as a testament to the books’ influence, it continues receiving adaptations to this day. After an anthology series in the 1990s, a new show based on the bestselling literature is making its way to Disney+ and Hulu. The new show, Goosebumps, will release its first five episodes on the two streaming platforms on October 13 with five more episodes following weekly. And whether you’re a diehard fan or just getting into the show, you may wonder if there’s any light reading you need to take care of before the premiere. While you can probably get away with going into the new series cold, the show will draw influence from five books in case you want to catch up.

Night of the Living Dummy and The Haunted Mask Will Be Adapted Into the New Goosebumps Show

The original Goosebumps show in the ’90s was an anthology, with each episode adapting a different book. The rebooted version will have a more serialized structure, but fans can expect plenty of familiar faces and monsters making the rounds. Disney even released a press release in September 2023 letting fans know what to expect, and five of the books that will make their way onto the show include Night of the Living Dummy, The Cuckoo Clock of Doom, The Haunted Mask, Say Cheese and Die!, and Go Eat Worms!

As for the main plot, the press release mentions how the show will follow five teenagers who begin investigating the mysterious death of Harold Biddle 30 years ago. In the process, they’ll come across some dark secrets concerning their parents. It’s safe to say they’ll meet plenty of horrors along the way, making for a new interpretation of the book series where everything is connected. And don’t worry about putting the kids to sleep before watching. The new Goosebumps show will remain firmly in the middle school camp of terror.

As far as highly anticipated horror TV shows in 2023, Goosebumps likely flew under a lot of people’s radar. However, if you want to watch something that probably won’t keep you up at night, check out Goosebumps when it comes out (appropriately enough) on October 13.

Yu Yu Hakusho Live Action Season 1 Release Date: When Does it Come to Netflix? https://attackofthefanboy.com/movies-tv/yu-yu-hakusho-live-action-season-1-release-date-when-does-it-come-to-netflix/ https://attackofthefanboy.com/movies-tv/yu-yu-hakusho-live-action-season-1-release-date-when-does-it-come-to-netflix/#respond Wed, 11 Oct 2023 23:43:09 +0000 https://attackofthefanboy.com/?p=955486 Yu Yu Hakusho is one of the most iconic Shonen manga and anime series of all time. A product of the 1990s, it follows Yusuke Urameshi as he grows from a hopeless delinquent with a heart of gold, into a powerful underworld detective when given a second chance. With the success of One Piece and its live-action adaptation, it appears Netflix is trying to capture lightning in a bottle with a new live-action release of Yu Yu Hakusho, but what date will it drop on the subscription service?

Yu Yu Hakusho Live Action Release Date, Time, and Countdown

Yu Yu Hakusho Live Action Season 1 will release on Netflix on December 14, 2023, with an anticipated release time of 12:00 AM PT. The series is a Netflix original and has yet to reveal its full episode list, but as this is a developing story, we will keep this piece updated with any new information.

Yu Yu Hakusho Netflix Live Action
Season 1 Release Date Countdown

Needless to say, fans are nervous and skeptical, with some prominent voices doubting the series will live up to the original. However, given the recent success of One Piece, there might be a chance for other iconic Shonen Jump manga to get live-action adaptations, with this one being a treat for the eyes.

How Much of the Yu Yu Hakusho Series is Covered by Season 1?

Little is known about how much of the series Season 1 will cover. Given that the anime is 112 episodes long, and how One Piece Live-Action (OPLA) covered 45 anime episodes with 8 live-action installments, we could get a couple of reasonably engaging seasons. But Yu Yu Hakusho is arguably far better-paced, so we might see a closer ratio. Luckily, you can read the manga ahead of time if you want to make a comparison!

Beyond that, we’ll likely see Yusuke’s initial arc where he dies heroically and is resurrected to become a spirit detective. It seems also likely we’ll see content covering the Spirit Detective Arc, but given the promo materials showing Kurama and Hiei, it’s also possible we’ll see the Artifacts of Darkness Arc as well. We will update you with any new details on this, so keep your eyes peeled!

Loki: Is Ouroboros from Marvel Comics? https://attackofthefanboy.com/movies-tv/loki-is-ouroboros-from-marvel-comics/ https://attackofthefanboy.com/movies-tv/loki-is-ouroboros-from-marvel-comics/#respond Sat, 07 Oct 2023 21:59:44 +0000 https://attackofthefanboy.com/?p=954537 Loki Season 1 made a splash, and round two looks like it will follow a similar trajectory. Things started out with a bang for the opening episode of the new season, and in an episode with several highlights, arguably the best thing to come out of it is the introduction of Ouroboros, played by Academy Award winner Ke Huy Quan. He’s a Time Variance Authority agent who’s basically a quirky repair guy, and Quan plays the role marvelously. Plus, his name is just delightful, with “Ouroboros” referencing the mythological snake that eats its own tail, part of Norse mythology that Loki (Tom Hiddleston) himself stems from. And while O.B. seems like mostly an original creation, it’s worth noting the several iterations of Ouroboros that have come out of Marvel Comics.

The TVA Used to Have a Mr. Orobourous

Mr.-Paradox-OB
Image: Marvel Comics

The closest iteration of O.B. from Loki Season 2 in the comics is Mr. Orobourous, who was a judge for the TVA. Notably, his name is spelled differently than Ouroboros, and other than being another bureaucrat for the TVA, the two don’t have a ton in common. He was created by Dan Slott for a 2005 She-Hulk comic and was a clone of Mr. Paradox. Even though the characterizations are completely different, there’s a good chance the writers of Loki liked the name, at least.

Marvel Has a Few Other Miscellaneous Uses of Ouroboros

Bahamet_29_from_Marvel_Contest_of_Champions_001_11zon
Image: Kabam

There have been a few other references to “Ouroboros” throughout the lineage of Marvel properties. In 1993, Doctor Strange #92 introduced the Oculus Ouroboros which consists of elemental magic that takes the form of a snake eating its own tail. 2015 brought readers a character named Admiral Ouroboros in Silver Surfer #11. The two do battle when the Surfer gets trapped in a time loop.

Most recently, Marvel’s Contest of Champions had an organization called Ouroboros in Universe-517. This group opposed the Elders of the Universe that sought to liberate the Battlerealm. The only issue with these other references is that they don’t seem to have anything to do with Ke Huy Quan’s character from Loki. The safest bet is that the writers liked the name and how it shares a connection with the TVA from the comics, and it being based in North mythology was the cherry on top.

It’s probably for the best as it allows Quan plenty of room to put his own spin on the character. And maybe his name will mean more in the episodes to come.

Who Are the Returning Actors in The Exorcist: Believer? https://attackofthefanboy.com/movies-tv/who-are-the-returning-actors-in-the-exorcist-believer/ https://attackofthefanboy.com/movies-tv/who-are-the-returning-actors-in-the-exorcist-believer/#respond Sat, 07 Oct 2023 21:26:46 +0000 https://attackofthefanboy.com/?p=954221 The following article contains spoilers for The Exorcist: Believer.

Like any good demon, The Exorcist franchise can’t stay dead, and there’s a new installment in theaters bound to fright and terrify. You don’t need to have seen any other Exorcist films to know what’s going on in The Exorcist: Believer, but any good horror aficionado should check out the original regardless. It’s a predominantly new cast of characters led by Victor Fielding (Leslie Odom Jr.) and his daughter, Angela (Lidya Jewett). However, as is the case with any good legacy sequel, some of the original actors have to come back, and the trailers have shown that Chris MacNeil (Ellen Burstyn) is back to help out with the latest case of demonic possession. And she hasn’t come alone.

Linda Blair Returns as Regan MacNeil for The Exorcist: Believer

Chris MacNeil may have been the protagonist for the original Exorcist movie in 1973, but the performance most people undoubtedly remember is Linda Blair’s Regan, i.e. the girl who gets possessed. She was nominated for an Academy Award for best supporting actress for her role, and she’s returned to her roots in the latest film, albeit in a much more diminished capacity.

Victor goes to Chris for advice, but she becomes sidelined for much of the action after a horrific encounter with one of the possessed girls. Throughout this time, she talks about how she lost contact with her daughter, Regan, after she sought fame and fortune by telling her story. Regan only returns at the very end while Chris is still in the hospital. It’s an incredibly brief cameo, but there’s always a chance it could be setting up more. The Exorcist: Believer is supposed to kick off a new trilogy, so perhaps she’ll get a meatier part in a sequel.

The Exorcist: Believer marks Linda Blair’s third entry in the franchise. In addition to starring in the original, she reprised her part in 1977’s Exorcist II: The Heretic. It wasn’t as well received as its predecessor.
