Super Mario Maker 2 is set to launch in only a matter of weeks, with the game looking better in almost every way than the already great first game. More recently, the game has received a lot of flack for the reveal that online multiplayer would be exclusively matchmaking, thus not allowing you to play with your friends online. We were hoping this might change in the future and Nintendo confirmed today that online multiplayer with friends would indeed be coming to Super Mario Maker 2 in the future.
Even with how much Nintendo has shown us about the game in the past, it was still a bit surprising how little they showed of it during their E3 Nintendo Direct this morning. The main reason for that though is that they saved it to show off during the Nintendo Treehouse segments after the fact, which mentioned the online multiplayer.
During this segment, it was revealed that Super Mario Maker 2 will be getting a post-launch update that will allow players to play with their friends online rather than only in random matchmaking. No timeline was given for this, though the way they spoke made it sound like it would be sooner rather than later after launch. Hopefully it is something we’ll get very soon after release, but at least we know it is indeed coming at some point.
Super Mario Maker 2 will release for Nintendo Switch on June 28.
